4th Whale (formerly Ex Situ Marketing), in business since 2003, is a leading online traffic optimization firm specializing in affiliate marketing and high-traffic web platform development. We are currently looking for a DevOps Specialist to join our engineering team in either a full time basis or by contract. The ideal candidate is passionate about DevOps, excels at collaboration and has experience with AWS. You will support daily operations and help develop strategies to improve availability and utilization of our products, tools, and applications. In addition, you will design, implement, and scale our infrastructure technologies, approach, and platform to support our development processes.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain the CI/CD infrastructure and tools to build and deliver across all channels
• Migrate existing and future legacy infrastructure to AWS / Google Cloud
• Design procedures for system troubleshooting and maintenance
• Collaborate with all teams to ensure that solutions are designed with customer user experience, scale/performance and operability in mind
• Investigate and collaborate with developers to resolve technical issues
• Implement tools to reduce occurrences of errors and improve automation
• Perform root cause analysis for production errors
• Provide minimal internal IT support

Desired Experience

• Work experience as a DevOps Specialist or similar web application build/delivery role
• Hands on experience with Amazon AWS services including IAM, EC2, RDS, S3, and Lambda
• Good knowledge of PHP and Nginx (subs_filter or other reverse proxies a plus)
• Working knowledge of databases and SQL/NoSQL including MongoDB and Mysql
• Experience in setting up and running CI platforms (e.g. Jenkins, Travis, other)
• Knowledge of Linux, including virtualization and security aspects
• Experience with creating/managing containers
• Understanding of configuration management tools (e.g. Puppet/Chef/Salt/Ansible/Terraform)
• Experience with build tools including (e.g. Ant/Phing)
• Knowledge of at least one programming language (e.g. PHP, JS, Python, Perl)
• Basic knowledge of markup languages including HTML
• Excellent written and interpersonal communication, and documentation skills
• Proficient understanding of OWASP security principles
• Understanding of “session management” in a distributed server environment
• Teamwork skills with a can-do attitude
• Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process
• Experience using version control – Git
